Carlos Prates faced a significant challenge in the UFC Kansas City main event last Saturday at the T-Mobile Center, where he entered the fight with an impressive 11-fight winning streak. However, that streak came to an end when he lost to Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision. Garry effectively controlled the fight, showcasing his skills throughout all three rounds.
Following the defeat, Prates reflected on his performance in a heartfelt statement shared via social media. In a post written in Portuguese on Instagram, he expressed his emotions regarding the loss. "Guys, this is crazy," Prates wrote. "Six years without losing, I had forgotten how much it hurts, how it hurts the heart, the soul, more than any other part of the body. I keep thinking, 'What if I had caught the back?' 'What if I knocked him down?' and so on. It’s time to go home, take care of my body and come back stronger than ever."
Despite the outcome, Prates acknowledged the positive experiences he had during fight week. He expressed gratitude to his supporters, team, and everyone involved in his journey. "This week was awesome; we had some amazing days and learned a lot. I have nothing to complain about. Thanks to everyone who cheered and sent messages. I can’t wait to be back. THE NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGUN!"
